Welcome.
Mia Perlman, LCSW, LICSW (she/her/hers)
Hi there. I’m Mia Perlman, and I’m glad you’re here.
I feel passionate about helping people create change in their lives. It’s so easy to get stuck, and we all need a little bit of help sometimes to get moving again. I find my work most fulfilling when I can help my clients understand themselves and feel in control of their lives again. I love helping people find their strength, feel compassion towards themselves, and grow.
My personal style is warm and empathic. I see therapy as a partnership between me and my clients. You will bring your knowledge, life experiences, and goals into therapy, and I will meet you with my skills, training, and expertise. I tailor the interventions that I use to each person I work with. I approach our therapeutic work with sensitivity, knowledge, and compassion, with the goal of ultimately working towards healing old wounds.
I am committed to supporting individuals of all backgrounds including BIPOC, people with disabilities, folks in the LGBTQ+ community, and more. I support the Health at Every Size (HAES) framework. In my work, I am committed to lifting up historically marginalized communities. I recognize the ways in which all levels of our environment can impact us, from our greater cultural systems to our smaller family systems. As an ally of these communities, I see it as part of my job to identify, explore, question, and challenge bias in myself and the world around us.
I completed my Master of Social Work at Boston College in 2018. I began my career in the Boston area, counseling children and families in community mental health and home settings. I worked with parents whose children were struggling with severe emotional and behavioral challenges. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I transitioned to outpatient work and deepened my experience as an individual therapist working with adults before opening my own private practice. I completed my Level One Internal Family Systems (IFS) training in 2021. I relocated my practice to Chicago in 2023, and I continue to see clients who are located in Illinois and Massachusetts. When I’m not working as your therapist, you can find me cooking, spending time outside, and reading. I took the photo in the header of this page on a hiking trip in Colorado a few summers ago.
